Zinc

Zinc

Zinc is important for making new cells and enzymes, processing food, in reproduction, wound healing and more.

Good food sources include meat, shellfish, bread, dairy, nuts and pulses.

Recommended daily intake is 7mg for women and 9.5mg for men.

Deficiency can cause hair loss and a reduction of;

- smell and taste

- appetite

- mood

- immunity

- wound healing

Tips;

- High zinc doses can upset the absorption of both iron and copper so be mindful if supplements contain high doses.

- Do not take zinc supplements if you have liver damage. Consult your Doctor first.

- Long term use of the oral contraceptive pill may cause low zinc levels.

- Zinc may reduce the absorption of some antibiotics so we recommend taking supplements at least 2 hours apart from medications.
