Manganese helps produce and activate many enzymes, as well as helping with bone formation and energy metabolism.

Good food sources include bread, nuts, wholegrain cereals and green vegetables.

Recommended daily intake is 2mg per day. 

Deficiency is rare because a lot is in processed foods like cereals and bread. However, with an increasing number of people cutting bread, we have included manganese in our multivitamin range. 

Low levels can cause symptoms like weight loss, dermatitis, high cholesterol and reduced hair and nail growth.
